With the C8 being auto only, does that mean the remaining V8 manuals are Camaro, Mustang, Challenger? What am I missing? Have we fallen this far???

Last of the V8 interceptors for your time...

The new GT500 will be auto only... I would not put it past Ford to phase out the manual on the GT. Would only be available on the GT350R.

Challenger and Charger are ancient cars... If they ever do a successor, what are the odds they’ll invest in a stick model?

The Camaro is rumored to be on the chopping block, or switch to hybrid power train in the future . Don’t expect a stick.

Soon the only V8s available will be trucks, Corvette, LC500, and flagship German sedans.

And none of those remaining V8s are manuals. I don’t know why I’m surprised by this but a V8 + manual is truly dying. I’m gonna go bu y a Camaro manual while I can!

Does Aston Martin Vantage still offer a manual?

BMW M4 no longer a V8... maybe no longer a manual.

Mercedes Benz went auto only before it was popular.

Jaguar F-type V6 RWD offers a stick, but V8s are AWD-Automatic only.

Audi R8 4.2 6-speed... not sure if it is still offered.

Ferrari V8 Portofino and 488-whatever-version... too expensive, and automated gearbox only at this point, pretty sure.

Porsche Panamera V8.... pretty sure not a manual either.

All hope is not lost... a few years, once all the late model used C7s and other discontinued V8s start to get a bit scarce , someone will realize that it is retro, and will make a throwback nostalgia car as a front-engine, manual gearbox, rear drive car with a V8, like th e Perana/AC/who-knows. Z-One.

Or the next generation cars from the big-3 will change and chase a younger demographic.... Mustang already somewhat does, but the price could come back down a bit.

Camaro is rumored not to be renewed after 2023, but maybe something otherwise will replace it further down-market from C8 Corvette, but still keep a special LS/LT V8 model. FCA could replace the Challenger with a Barracuda or Firepower or something... a bit less strictly retro, and a lot less massive, if they can leverage the Alfa Giulia platform... and keep the option for the 3.6 V6 and 5.9 V8.

And truth be told... 300-350hp out of a V6 is at or above the performance per pound that V8s were just 10 years ago or so... and for most driving situations the V8 is probably not actually using the additional power it has over the V6, for the extra mass, cooling, braking, etc... that the V8's potential requires to be on board.

Do people really, honestly use 0-60 in less than 4 seconds, or regularly exploit top speed potential, if they don’t take the car to a track? Not that it shouldn’t exist... but huge focus on that misses the point of the way most cars get utilized on the road, and tuning well for that bandwidth, rather than un-used bench-racing stats.

Frankly, I lament that the 370Z is the only V6 sports car at an affordable price on the market, because it is stale, ugly, and not a priority for Nissan at all, at this point.

I want something more than 200hp in the $ 20K range, like BRZ/86 and Miata.

I don’t need, and can’t reasonably justify a new 450-500hp in the $ 50K range, like Mustang GT premium and Bullitt, Camaro SS, and Challenger RT Scat Pack or SRT 392.

Camaro V6 RS is a good powertrain... but the car is a bunker without windows, and still well into the 40K range with amenities that people would like to have .

Mustang V6 6-speed is gone, and never got the sport options. EcoBoost turbo i4 just isn’t quite the same... or at least it should look different than the V8, and more tech-forward like an SVO used to.

Challenger V6... not bad, but heavy enough that the 5.9 V8, with the V8 sound is pretty much required, despite the 3.6 V6 being a good, solid engine, it isn’t a 350hp engine, and Challenger is a 2-tons or more.

Supra is over-priced, no manual gearbox, and just ugly.

Mazda doesn’t have anything above the Miata.

Subaru doesn’t have anything even remotely close, above the torqueless BRZ, but it does have a stick.

I think the Mustang GT will have a stick offered for at least another decade.

As far as I know this is the last OTR V8 Truck available anywhere. B etween 520 to 730hp. And yes, you can still get them in Manual (another thing that is becoming increasingly rare in trucks).

TVR allegedly still exist and I think they have built at least one.

You can still order an M600 with a manual.

Bowler Defenders are sold as new so I guess that counts

I hope so. Problem is will Tremec, or whoever manufactures the manual trans, continue to develop and make them? Specifically the TR6060 version used in high torque V8 applications considering such low volume and few models. I dont think they will make a bespoke trans just for a small number of Camaros or Mustangs.

Not quite on-topic, but the last-gen Cayenne GTS would make a pretty great Mad Max universe car. Manual, V8, 4WD, as ugly as the warboy  driving it.

Every TVR makes me HNNGGG. If I could find a TVR 2500 (i think thats what its called, the old 70s hatch two door) and afford it I think it would be bliss.

I was car shopping for the family about to start back in the end of 2008 and noticed a peculiar thing. Autos, new ones, were getting better mileage than the manuals. 1 mpg, but still, it was advertised that way. I could speculate a shady campaign to keep people from buying manuals based on the crushed- economy gas prices up at the time and wouldn’t doubt it. But if they can improve acceleration times with fast acting 8-10 speed automatics, then the marketing alone on that will get people not to care.

My solution is to build something I want, and to not buy the depreciating pile of computer controlled automatic messes the new stuff will become. If the C8 turned out good, ill find a used one 5 years on, then stick a 6-71 blower up and out of the rear hatch.

My dads partner just got a new ZL1 that I saw a few weeks back. Sounded glorious when he drove off and the alcantara really sets off the interior.

I really want a 3rd gen tho
